The Pit and the Pendulum.

I found especially difficult to read this story. I think it was because of the vocabulary and because of the beginning. I felt the beginning no really interesting but very confusing. I was already on page 3 and still, I didn't know who the narrator was and what was going on. I felt stressed with the descriptions, but not in a bad way. I think it was the author's purpose. On the other side, the story treats specially the theme of being almost blind. This and the extra homework about “Sensorama”, made me think that for almost all the people the fact to see is very important. Many people, especially little children, are afraid of darkness. This is because they can't see, and not being able to see makes us feel afraid of all the things that surround us.

I think this is a good story, but personally, it is not my favorite. Maybe because of the entire creepy environment.

Allegories

It is funny to remember, that some time ago I hadn't ever listened to the word "allegory". But what is interesting to know, is that they are everywhere and they are very ancient. Cultures like the Greeks and Mayas had allegories mainly in their gods. All of them represented their power and their fierce in the pictures and murals. These pictures were located in public places because by seeing them, they could perceive the characteristics of that god.

Since I knew what an allegory was, I started to se allegories everywhere!! In paintings, in TV, plays etc. I think that in any direction you look, you'll find an allegory. Let's try to guess its meaning!!

The Masque of the Red Death

Last week I read The Masque of the Red Death. I the time that I had was short so, I didn't pay the attention that it deserved. It was until I read it the second time, where I discovered that that short story, which actually, for me seemed like a legend, was full of allegories. That second time, I found interesting that Red Death was actually a personification. Also, the way the prince wants to maintain that sickness out of his castle. At this point, I started thinking that every human would want the misfortune out of his lands. But here we see how powerful nature, especially sicknesses can be. Then, I realized that not even the prince had his life secure.

What is art?

In my opinion, art is a beautiful representation of what the human is able to see, feel and think. But the thing is that for each one of us, beauty is different. That's why; maybe your failed attempt of writing or painting is not as recognized as Shakespeare's Hamlet or Da Vinci's Gioconda. Some experts decide what is art, and what is not, they have the ability to look for beauty in those works. Art is also for any kind of people, tall, small, old people and children. Everyone has the opportunity to go to a free museum, read a good book and appreciate art. Finally, art is being produced right now, everywhere and in any time. There are so many pieces of art, what are you waiting to know more about them?

Night

I think World War II is always an interesting subject to talk about, or read about. I've read some books and stories , and what I like, is that I always find a new point of view . It is not what I could describe as a beautiful topic, but I consider that we need to know what happened in the past. I think that this book will show the cruelty against people who thinked diffetent, was different and it wasn't really their fault. Can you imagine what would happen if someone with power doesn't share your point of view? We would probably had already died. I think this will Be a really good book that will show us that the most valuable in the world, is human life.

A sound of thunder

Personally, I don't really like science fiction stories. I prefer just fiction. But last week we read "A sound of thunder" and I did enjoyed it. I Thought that it wasn't going to be interesting. But the idea of travelling in time, is almost always interesting. In the story is also mentioned the butterfly effect. I think it is usual in this kind of stories. But what I found different, was the hunting. I found that idea really original and interesting. Even when I was expecting something more in the resolution of the story, I really liked it.

The witness for the persecution was Amazing!! That’s what I said after reading it! When I saw it, I thought: ohh! This is gonna be boring, let´s better start now! But then, as the story advanced, I became more and more interested, arriving to the point that I finished the story in less than 30 minutes!!The ending was so beautiful, that I didn’t expected nothing less of Agatha Cristy.

During this 2 short stories, I’m having a good thime with literature (of couse, let’s see what happens in the exam!). I guess it is because the stories are interesting and with easy vocabulary in order to understand easily the main ideas and complex plots. Congratulations to the book’s editors and also to the teacher because of selecting this kind of stories!!

La dama de negro

La dama de negro, was a play that I really enjoyed. Maybe because the sound effects were great, just as both actors. The play at the beggining, is really funny, and then, it starts to get chilling. I personally think, it can’t be compared with a movie, becuse in movies you have many time to prepare your ideas, dialogs and acts. Unlike cinema, theater is supposed to be more original, giving rise to improvisation.

May be for some people, sound and light effects are better in cinema, but taking into account that the play is not a big and it hasn’t got a big cast, I consider La Dama de Negro a good play. You can see the hard work of the people involved.

Comment Short story by Mark Twain

I found the text very interesting, obviously because of the surprice ending. I think Mark Twain is a great writer, who has the ability to drive you easy through the story and suddenly change the ending, and all the meaning of the story. For example, at the beginning I had the idea that Henry was the luckiest man in the world, because he was huseband of an almost perfect woman. But at the end, I thought:" OHH!! poor man!!". I really enjoyed the story and that form of writing, makes me think Mark Twain really writes literature.
