Phenomenal Woman

I liked thins poem because of the sincerity that the author has. I have no doubt that Maya Angelou has a very high self esteem. I admire that, because in our times there is still a lot of racism. I think Maya Angelou as many other people fought against the opinion of racist people. Now we can see that not only she accepts being a black woman, but she is very proud about it. Many people should follow this example. Because when it has to do with physical things, we can't do much about it. Instead, we can be better in the inside, which is much more important. I also liked the poem because I noticed very quickly the rhythm which makes the poem much more pleasant to hear

Taxi

One of the things that human beings are more afraid of: is when the things change. When people must go to the university and they won't see his/her family, friends any more. But also when a couple is separated by the distance everything seems so wrong. Those were the feelings that the poem transmitted me. I was able to see the streets of a busy city passing by. I could feel the sense of not knowing where to go, or what to do, the sense of not wanting anything to change. Unfortunately all good things come to an end. Everything is are always changing and ending. People in our lives are always rotating. We must get used to it. Otherwise we are going to be hurt many times. I enjoyed reading the poem, mainly because I felt everything that the author describes.

Those winter sundays.

Many times people who love us make everything needed to provide us comfort. But do we always thank those people what they do for us? No, I think most of the time we are busy with other things. We don't realize how that people love us. And the regret will come until they are death? That was my reflexion after reading that poem. It makes us think of our lives and the simple things people do for us. I liked the poem because of the point of view that the child has, appearing to be very selfish. But at the end he changes his mind and thanks (after too much time) what his father did for him and the love he had.

Exile

I liked this poem because it made me understand what narrative poetry is. Also I liked it because it tells a story and because I was able to find the theme an main ideas easily. I think the story is really strong and I'm sure that many immigrants feel the same way. Because their main landuade expresses things that with others they can't. In this case, Spanish is a very special language not on ly because is it hte one that makes people different in a country, but also because of the memories that it brings.I also liked the message ans I was able to understand what people feel whan they arrive to another country. They watch every thing so different, but knowing that they'll have to adapt to the traditions of that place.

The Pit and the Pendulum.

I found especially difficult to read this story. I think it was because of the vocabulary and because of the beginning. I felt the beginning no really interesting but very confusing. I was already on page 3 and still, I didn't know who the narrator was and what was going on. I felt stressed with the descriptions, but not in a bad way. I think it was the author's purpose. On the other side, the story treats specially the theme of being almost blind. This and the extra homework about “Sensorama”, made me think that for almost all the people the fact to see is very important. Many people, especially little children, are afraid of darkness. This is because they can't see, and not being able to see makes us feel afraid of all the things that surround us.

I think this is a good story, but personally, it is not my favorite. Maybe because of the entire creepy environment.

Allegories

It is funny to remember, that some time ago I hadn't ever listened to the word "allegory". But what is interesting to know, is that they are everywhere and they are very ancient. Cultures like the Greeks and Mayas had allegories mainly in their gods. All of them represented their power and their fierce in the pictures and murals. These pictures were located in public places because by seeing them, they could perceive the characteristics of that god.

Since I knew what an allegory was, I started to se allegories everywhere!! In paintings, in TV, plays etc. I think that in any direction you look, you'll find an allegory. Let's try to guess its meaning!!

The Masque of the Red Death

Last week I read The Masque of the Red Death. I the time that I had was short so, I didn't pay the attention that it deserved. It was until I read it the second time, where I discovered that that short story, which actually, for me seemed like a legend, was full of allegories. That second time, I found interesting that Red Death was actually a personification. Also, the way the prince wants to maintain that sickness out of his castle. At this point, I started thinking that every human would want the misfortune out of his lands. But here we see how powerful nature, especially sicknesses can be. Then, I realized that not even the prince had his life secure.
